Tarps can be heavy and awkward; choose the right tarp for the job to control the size, weight, and strength needed to handle it. Use mechanical aids to apply and remove tarps. When moving the tarp by hand, use good body mechanics. Face the tarp, keep your back straight and pull the tarp out with your hands at about waist height. Avoid twisting or pulling down with your arms overhead.  Keep a firm grip on the tarp to prevent slipping. Spread your feet, shoulder-width apart and stagger them slightly for the most power and stability. Watch for surface winds or gusts from traffic that could cause the tarp to fly away.

To remove a tarp, loosen it by fanning to move air underneath. Use your arms, legs and body weight to pull the tarp off the truck; watch for unstable loads! Lay the tarp out on a clean, flat area and check for holes or damage. Don’t walk on tarps to avoid slips and tarp damage. Get help to fold it.

Plan a pickup or delivery job before you drive to a site. Know the site layout for the customers you visit most. Get advanced information on the load or material details and loading/unloading procedures, including available equipment and help. Consider the truck type, height, and access points before you go. Ask directly about the tarping policy; can it be done on site, or will you need to find a safe area outside the facility? Never tarp on the side of a busy road or highway.

EPDM vs. Natural Rubber

Rubber is a term that refers to compounds of elastic made into polymers that are heat cured or vulcanized into shapes we can use.  Tarp straps, gaskets, and shoe soles are several of the familiar end products.  Rubber is often compounded with materials to make it harder or softer, more stretchy or less stretchy, and more abrasion resistant or less abrasion resistant.

Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer - or - EPDM is a chemically-derived base polymer with excellent resistance to most materials except oil.  EPDM performs best in high ozone and high sun light environments or around chemicals, steam or environmental temperature extremes.

Natural Rubber is a tree-based polymer grown in parts of the world, ideally with high rainfall and humidity, high sunlight and little wind.  In plantations Rubber trees can have a useful production life of up to 25 years.  Natural Rubber works best in cold, wet environments or where high rebound, adhesion to metal or resistance to abrasion is required.

Sturdy ball with pump
Color: Black/White, Size: Medium
Thick material so it won't pop so easy. Comes with a hand pump and 2 ball needles. Tabs for the dog to carry in his mouth. Although my dog bites the whole thing to carry. Savage loves it!

Good quality
Color: Black, Size: Medium
Look and feel nice. My feet are size 8.5 men’s USA and they are reasonably snug. The will seems a little better than cotton.

My new favorite socks!
Color: White, Size: Medium
As someone that struggles with cold hands and feet, I started experimenting with using merino wool socks over my usual cotton and polyester blend socks. I am very pleased to report that these merino wool socks are very comfortable and warm. They have a secure and comfortable fit--ideal for casual everyday use. These socks perform well as athletic socks for winter soccer, and will slowly take over my sock drawer! These socks have a good thickness to them and feel durable for normal wear. The elastic portion of the sock stretches to accommodate wider ankles (like mine) and does not feel like it will lose elasticity quickly. Very fair value for the cost in my book.

Great product
Color: Black, Size: Medium
Super soft and fits like a sock should. I wash in a lingerie bag on gentle cycle and hang dry due to fabric type. My feet don't get sweaty which is why I have chosen merino wool products as all of my base layers (socks, underwear, etc)

Lightweight and Comfortable, but very thin
Color: Black, Size: Large
I used the Lapulas Merino Wool Quarter Socks for Men on a Europe trip where I was walking pretty much all day, and overall they performed well. The biggest thing to know right away is that they are very thin. If you’re expecting thick, cushioned socks, these are not that. They feel more like a lightweight layer rather than something padded. That said, the thinness actually worked in my favor for travel. Even after long days of walking, my feet didn’t feel overly sweaty or damp. They seem to handle moisture pretty well, and I didn’t get that uncomfortable “wet sock” feeling, which is a big plus when you’re constantly on the move. They’re also surprisingly decent at regulating temperature. They’re not thick, but they still help keep your feet warm when it’s a bit cold, while staying breathable enough during the day. It’s more of a balanced, all-day comfort rather than heavy insulation. One thing I noticed is that they stretch out a bit after the first use. They’re snug at first, but after wearing them for a day, they loosen slightly. It’s not terrible, but it’s noticeable, especially since they’re already thin. Also, proper care really matters with these. Since they’re merino wool and lightweight, I’d recommend being careful with washing and drying—gentle wash and air drying is probably the best way to maintain the shape and quality. Throwing them in a regular hot wash/dry cycle will likely wear them out faster or affect the fit. Because they’re thin, they fit nicely inside shoes without feeling tight or bulky, which I appreciated when wearing sneakers for long periods. Pros: -Lightweight and comfortable for all-day walking -Good moisture control, feet don’t feel damp -Breathable and not too hot -Helps keep feet warm despite being thin -Easy to pack for travel Cons: -Very thin, not much cushioning -Slightly loosens after first use -Requires careful washing and drying
